Interesting! If your a bird buff this is an unexpected lovely site to visit. The wood carving artist is always there working at his bench and many displays of wood carved birds & foul local to the region. $10 entry fee.
Really cool bird carvings and carved wood prints. Worth the $5 if you like that kind of stuff.
Beautiful carvings of local birds. Small museum but worth the stop. They also have classes in bird carving.
We visited Southwest Harbor last week and stopped in at the Wendell Gilley Museum. Our visit there was one of the highlights of our Maine trip.
Gilley's evolution from plumber/hunter to artist is a great story. His woodcarvings of Maine birds are astonishing. The artist in our family had a great time carving a duck in basswood with the resident artists. He left with a new enthusiasm for wood carving.
